Treatment of Balance and Dizziness
Treatment of balance and dizziness and vertigo treatment may begin with a comprehensive therapy evaluation that documents a patient's medical history, assesses medications and conducts a physical examination of vision, posture, strength, movement and balance. Once a functional baseline is established, goals will be identified and a treatment plan will be developed that may include:
- Proprioceptive retraining to improve position sense and enhance balance in various situations
- Visual, vestibular-ocular reflex exercises to improve gaze stability while a patient is in motion
- Specific vestibular exercises to stimulate the inner ear balance system
